Allensworth Eyecare does not accept vision or medical insurance. By removing the constraints and administrative costs of insurance billing, I am able to keep my pricing simple, transparent, and often more affordable. My exam fees are clearly listed, and any necessary diagnostic testing is included.
There are some excellent vision insurance plans available, and if you have one that works well for you I encourage you to use it in an office where you can get the most out of your benefits.
However, I have found many patients are frustrated with how much they pay out of pocket — even after applying discounts from their vision plan. Copays, additional fees for tests, exorbitant contact lens fitting fees, and limited allowances for glasses or contacts add up and make eye care feel complicated and overly expensive.
Myopia, Hyperopia, and Astigmatism are three conditions that determine your refractive error. Your refractive error is the power needed in glasses or contact lenses for you to see your best. I will determine your refractive error during your comprehensive eye exam and discuss the findings with you. We can then decide what works best for you, whether that is full time glasses, glasses for certain tasks, contact lenses, or a referral for refractive surgery such as LASIK or clear lens exchange.
Cataracts can be detrimental to your vision, even when your glasses prescription is correct. They cause blurring, glare, dim vision, muted colors, and other visual symptoms. I will evaluate your cataract status during your comprehensive eye exam and discuss the findings with you. Depending on your condition and symptoms we may decide to monitor, or we may decide that cataract surgery would be beneficial. If you elect to proceed with surgery I will coordinate a referral to a cataract surgeon and will likely see you back at my office for the follow up visits.
Glaucoma is a category of diseases that feature progressive optic nerve damage which leads to vision loss. As part of your comprehensive exam I will evaluate your optic nerve for signs of glaucoma. If there are any findings that are worrisome we will discuss them, as well as possible appropriate treatments and decide what works best for your lifestyle. We will also plan follow up visits to closely monitor your condition. If appropriate I will coordinate a referral to a glaucoma specialist so that you have access to the highest level of care.
Comprehensive eye exams will also include an evaluation for macular degeneration, a condition where cellular byproducts accumulate in your retina leading to blurry central vision. If detected, we will discuss ways in which you can slow the progression. If appropriate, I will refer you to one of the many great retinal specialists we have in OKC/Edmond.
An examination of the retina is a part of every comprehensive eye exam. Extra attention will be given to this portion of the exam for patients with diabetes, patients with high blood pressure and any patient taking a GLP-1 medication. I will be looking for small changes in the retinal blood vessels, which could be a sign of deeper pathology. I will discuss any important findings with you and will communicate those findings to your primary care doctor and/or endocrinologist. If appropriate, I will coordinate a referral to a retinal specialist for further evaluation and treatment.
We provide a complete range of vision and medical eye care services to meet your needs at every stage of life.
